Constantine II was the eldest son of Constantine the Great and his second wife, Fausta. After Constantine the Great’s death in 337 AD, the empire was divided among his three sons. Constantine II received Britain, Gaul, and Spain but quickly grew dissatisfied with his share. Tensions with his younger brother Constans escalated, ultimately leading Constantine II to invade Italy. His campaign ended in disaster when he was ambushed and killed near Aquileia in 340 AD.
