Own a certified Roman bronze AE1 of Constantius I Chlorus (AD 293–306), authenticated and slabbed by NGC. This coin connects to the foundational years of the Tetrarchy — Rome’s grand experiment in shared rule to manage its sprawling empire.

Constantius Chlorus was appointed as Caesar in 293 AD under Emperor Diocletian’s new system, governing the western provinces, particularly Gaul and Roman Britain. His leadership was critical during this period, as he successfully repelled invasions by Germanic tribes and led campaigns to reclaim Britain from usurper control, restoring Roman authority across the western reaches of the empire.

When Diocletian and Maximian abdicated in 305 AD, Constantius was elevated to the rank of Augustus in the West. However, his tenure as senior emperor was short-lived due to illness; he died in 306 AD in Britain. His death triggered a power struggle that eventually led to the rise of his son, Constantine the Great.

Bronze AE1 coins of Constantius Chlorus typically feature his dignified, laureate bust on the obverse, while the reverse highlights military strength, divine favor, or the unity of the Tetrarchic system — core themes intended to stabilize and legitimize imperial rule during a fragile time.

Certified by NGC, this AE1 coin offers collectors a direct link to the era of imperial reform, military resilience, and the beginnings of the Constantinian dynasty that would reshape Roman history.
