Postumus Roman AE (AD 260-269) NGC

Own a certified Roman bronze AE of Postumus (AD 260–269), authenticated and slabbed by NGC. This coin comes from one of the most fascinating breakaway regimes during the Crisis of the Third Century — the short-lived Gallic Empire.
Postumus was born in a remote outpost of the Roman Empire, far from the aristocratic elite that traditionally supplied Rome’s emperors. Rising swiftly through the military ranks on merit, he eventually commanded Roman forces "among the Celts" — in the regions of modern-day France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Britain.
In 260 AD, amid the chaos caused by invasions and internal instability, Postumus was proclaimed emperor by his troops. He established the Gallic Empire, a separate realm that effectively governed the western provinces independently from Rome. Postumus brought a measure of stability to the region, defending the borders against Germanic invasions and restoring local confidence in leadership at a time when the central Roman government was faltering.
Despite his military success and popularity, Postumus was eventually betrayed and murdered by his own troops in 269 AD, illustrating the brutal volatility of the age.
AE coins of Postumus typically show his radiate-crowned portrait on the obverse and reverses celebrating military victories, the loyalty of the legions, or the stability of his breakaway empire.
Certified by NGC, this bronze coin offers collectors a powerful piece of Roman history — a symbol of resilience, ambition, and the fragmentation of imperial power during Rome’s most unstable century.
