Own a certified Roman bronze AE coin of Severus II (AD 306–307), authenticated and slabbed by NGC. This coin represents a brief but dramatic chapter during the final years of the Tetrarchy — Rome’s experiment with shared imperial rule.

Severus II rose to power through the support of his friend and fellow soldier, Emperor Galerius. Of humble origins, Severus was elevated to Caesar in 305 AD and soon after became Western Augustus following the death of Constantius I Chlorus. However, his rule was short-lived. Facing revolts by Maxentius and the shifting loyalties of key military forces, Severus fled to Ravenna, where he was eventually captured and executed in 307 AD.

Coins issued in Severus II’s name typically feature his military portrait on the obverse, emphasizing his legitimacy and role as emperor, while the reverse often carries imagery promoting strength, stability, or the blessings of Rome — ideals the empire desperately needed but struggled to maintain during this turbulent period.

Certified by NGC, this bronze coin offers a tangible piece of history from the chaotic collapse of the Tetrarchic system. It’s a must-have for collectors interested in late Roman imperial history, short-reigned emperors, or the power struggles that set the stage for Constantine the Great’s rise.
