Constantius I Chlorus Roman AE1 (AD 293-306) NGC
Low stock: 2 left
Own an authentic Roman AE1 coin of Constantius I Chlorus (AD 293–306), certified and encapsulated by NGC. A key figure in the late Roman Empire, Constantius played a major role during the Tetrarchy, the system established by Diocletian to stabilize and govern the vast empire more effectively.
In 305 AD, the ailing Emperor Diocletian abdicated, splitting the empire into East and West, each ruled by an Augustus and a Caesar. Constantius Chlorus served as the Western Caesar, overseeing Gaul and Roman Britain. His leadership was critical during a time of political reorganization and military challenges, and he notably restored Britain to Roman control after the rebellion of Carausius and Allectus.
This AE1 coin typically features Constantius' portrait on the obverse, depicted in a commanding military style. The reverse often showcases symbols of Roman strength and unity, reflecting the ideals of the Tetrarchy.
Struck over 1,700 years ago, the AE1 is a larger bronze coin compared to later issues, usually around 25–28 mm in diameter. Despite the passage of time, many examples retain excellent details, making them prized additions to ancient coin collections.
NGC certification guarantees authenticity and protects the coin in a secure holder, ensuring it remains a lasting part of your collection. Constantius Chlorus is also remembered as the father of Constantine the Great, adding even more historical significance to this piece.
Add a certified artifact from the dawn of the Tetrarchy to your collection today — a true relic of Roman resilience and change.
