Own a certified Roman Silver Denarius of Caracalla (AD 198–217), authenticated and slabbed by NGC. This coin represents one of the most infamous and impactful emperors of the Severan dynasty.

Caracalla, the son of Septimius Severus and Julia Domna, came to power after a violent succession. In 211 AD, shortly after his father’s death, he had his brother Geta murdered, consolidating sole control over the Roman Empire. Despite his brutal rise, Caracalla’s reign left a lasting legacy.

In 212 AD, he issued the Edict of Caracalla, one of the most important legal reforms in Roman history, granting full Roman citizenship to all free men across the empire. This broadened the base of Roman society, extending privileges previously reserved for a select few and reshaping the empire’s legal and social structure.

Caracalla is also remembered for constructing the famous Baths of Caracalla in Rome — an enormous and lavish public complex that remains a major tourist attraction today. His reign, however, was marked by cruelty and military campaigns, and he was eventually assassinated in 217 AD during a campaign in the East.

Denarii of Caracalla typically feature his fierce, realistic portrait on the obverse and reverses promoting military strength, divine favor, or imperial virtues.

Certified by NGC, this Silver Denarius offers a direct connection to a ruler whose actions had deep and lasting effects on Roman law, society, and architecture. A prime addition for collectors of Roman emperors, the Severan dynasty, or monumental Roman reforms.
