Caracalla, the son of Septimius Severus and Julia Domna, came to power after a violent succession. In 211 AD, shortly after his father’s death, he had his brother Geta murdered, consolidating sole control over the Roman Empire. Despite his brutal rise, Caracalla’s reign left a lasting legacy.

In 212 AD, he issued the Edict of Caracalla, one of the most important legal reforms in Roman history, granting full Roman citizenship to all free men across the empire.
