Own a certified Roman Silver Denarius of Julia Domna (AD 193–217), authenticated and slabbed by NGC. This coin honors one of the most powerful and influential women in Roman imperial history.

Julia Domna, a native of Syria and daughter of a high priest, rose to prominence as the wife of Emperor Septimius Severus. Although Roman law excluded women from formal political power, Julia became a formidable force behind the throne. She earned the loyalty of the military, accompanying Severus on campaigns and earning the title "Lady of the Camp." The soldiers revered her for her wisdom and leadership, and she played a key role in strengthening Severus’ rule.

She bore two sons, Geta and Caracalla, who became co-emperors after Severus' death. Following Geta’s assassination by Caracalla’s agents, Julia continued to advise her surviving son, helping maintain a semblance of stability. After Caracalla’s assassination in 217 AD and the rise of Macrinus, Julia refused to submit to the new regime. Choosing death over dishonor, she famously committed suicide by starvation.

Denarii of Julia Domna typically feature her elegant, elaborately coiffed portrait on the obverse, while the reverse often depicts goddesses or virtues like Pietas (piety) or Felicitas (happiness), reflecting her central role in imperial propaganda.

Certified by NGC, this Silver Denarius offers a powerful connection to a woman whose ambition, intellect, and influence helped shape the Roman Empire’s destiny. A must-have for collectors of Roman empresses, the Severan dynasty, or ancient power players.
