Titus Roman Silver Denarius (AD 79–81) – NGC Certified
Out of stock
Own a certified silver denarius of Emperor Titus (AD 79–81), son of Vespasian and successor to the Flavian dynasty, authenticated and slabbed by NGC. This coin offers a direct connection to one of the most consequential and controversial figures of 1st-century Rome.
Before becoming emperor, Titus earned lasting fame — and infamy — as commander of Roman forces in the Jewish War (66–73 AD). In 70 AD, he led the brutal siege and destruction of Jerusalem, razing the Second Temple, the most sacred site in Judaism. This event marked the defining moment of the war and had profound religious, cultural, and political consequences. The triumph is immortalized on the Arch of Titus, still standing in Rome, where carvings depict Roman soldiers carrying the temple’s sacred artifacts, including the Menorah.
Despite this harsh military reputation, Titus’s short reign as emperor was marked by generosity and public works. He responded swiftly and compassionately to major disasters, including the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD and a devastating fire in Rome. Roman historians, including Suetonius, praised him as a just and benevolent ruler — earning him the enduring label of a “good emperor.”
Silver denarii of Titus often feature his laureate bust on the obverse, with reverses celebrating military victories, deified family members, or symbols of divine favor.
Certified by NGC, this denarius offers collectors a rare and meaningful piece from the reign of an emperor whose legacy straddles conquest and compassion.
